Biology students recently took their study of genetics from the textbook to the laboratory by investigating how DNA can be extracted from a banana. Through this hands-on activity, students were able to observe biological material and connect classroom concepts about cells, genetics, and DNA to a real-world experiment. The lab gave students an opportunity to practice scientific observation while gaining a better understanding of how DNA, the genetic material found within living organisms, can be isolated and examined. Activities like this allow students to experience science in action while strengthening their curiosity and understanding of important biological concepts.
